Lawrence Anthony

Internationally known South African conservationist, author, humanitarian and founder of The Earth Organization, Lawrence Anthony passed away on March 2. He was 61.

An acknowledged African wildlife expert, Anthony is probably best known for his bold conservation initiatives, including the rescue of the Baghdad Zoo at the height of the war in Iraq in April 2003, and his expeditions into the jungles of Southern Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in an attempt to keep the Northern White Rhino from extinction.

Among his many recognitions and awards, he was a recipient of the United Nations “Earth Day Medal” presented at the United Nations in New York in 2004. Recipient of the Earth Society “Earth Trustee” award presented at the United Nations in 2004 and he was an international member of the esteemed Explorers Club in New York.

For his bravery and initiative in the rescue of the Baghdad Zoo Lawrence was recognized by both the US and Iraqi governments and he was honored with the US Army 3rd Infantry Division “Regimental Medal”. This medal is only awarded during active service.

In 2007 Lawrence submitted the Wildlife in Warzones draft resolution to the United Nations in New York. The draft resolution obliges member states to protect wildlife and the environment in war zones and to treat zoos, game reserves, marine parks, veterinary facilities and game rangers as illegitimate targets of war. The resolution is being actively pursued internationally and is finding strong support and traction amongst member states.

Lawrence was the founder of the Earth Organization, an independent international conservation and environmental organization with a strong scientific orientation. Its head office is in South Africa and has chapters in seventeen countries.

At a presentation in Washington, DC, respected author and journalist Tom Clynes named Lawrence amongst his six most impressive and influential people in a lifetime of reporting. Other names on the list include such luminaries as Sir Edmund Hilary.

Anthony was owner and long standing head of conservation on the Thula Thula Game reserve in Kwa Zulu Natal South Africa. Thula Thula is the oldest private game reserve in Kwa Zulu Natal.

He leaves behind his wife Francoise, his two sons and two grandsons.

Happy New Year

Hello! And happy new year! Hope you all had a great holiday too. I’m enjoying some time off while our writers write the 10 additional episodes Lifetime ordered for Army Wives season 6! That means 23 episodes this season!

No word yet on an air date but my guess is it will be within the next few months. So many exciting story lines and several new characters (played by Kelly Martin, Kelly Williams, Susan Lucci, Robert Sean Burke… And more!) I think it’s going to be worth the wait!

Lots of other things brewing… More updates soon. Let’s all make 2012 the best year ever!

Desert Storm

I recently signed on to the film “Desert Storm”. I’m excited about the project – right up my alley – it’s an action thriller with some interesting twists. I get to play a reporter investigating the disappearance of a Black Ops team in Northern Iraq. Adam is directing and it was written by Mike Falkow with New Slant Productions producing. I’ll keep everyone posted, but we’re looking to shoot by the end of the year.

Last Man Standing

On June 6th, LIFETIME aired LAST MAN STANDING. This was the Original Movie written by my husband, Adam and his writing partner, Jolene T. Rice. I produced and starred and Gale Anne Hurd (ALIENS, TERMINATOR 1 & 2, THE WALKING DEAD) Exec-Produced!

We are VERY proud of this thing! It moves like a BOURNE flick, fast and non-stop action/thriller with interesting characters! Here’s what Lifetime says about it on their website:

“In the action thriller “Last Man Standing,” Abby Collins (Catherine Bell) is a happy suburban wife and mother who has been concealing her dark past as a military-trained special-ops agent. But when her husband is mysteriously kidnapped, Abby’s past returns to haunt her, and she must risk everything to protect her daughter and save the man she loves. Mekhi Phifer and Anthony Michael Hall co-star alongside Bell.”
I drive like a woman possessed, shoot bad guys with a shotgun and have to keep my daughter safe and rescue my husband to save the day!
